Race and your child

In order to help these parents think clearly about the situation, I need to understand the context and roots of their concerns. Their concerns emerge from the reality of South Africa's history of apartheid. It was the age of legalised discrimination, separateness and a state ideology that constructed whiteness as superior and desirable.

These parents are experiencing the reality that our collective history of racism didn't evaporate in 1994. It lives on, not just around us, but in our conscious and unconscious attitudes, feelings and values. - Times LIVE
